In transport operations, a completed delivery is often treated as a successful one. If the vehicle returns empty, the job is closed and no further assessment is made.

The difference was not marginal - it was operationally significant.
One of the deliveries took approximately 20 minutes longer than the other and consumed around 1.6 litres more fuel for the same 18-ton load.
Without this level of measurement, both jobs would have appeared identical, even though one was significantly less efficient.
